The Religious of the Good Shepherd sounded their call in a letter to the editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer (NOv. 22,2007) where they said partly:
Inspired and challenged by our mission to continue to be "Life-bearers with and for the Poor" and called to heed Micah 6:8 to "act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with our God," we believe that the common good and wellbeing and security of the Filipino people should be a great concern of the national leadership. The fact is the majority of the Filipinos are insecure and fearful in the midst of grinding poverty.
The Good Shepherd Sisters decry the recent bombing of the Batasan Pambansa which resulted in the loss of lives and severe injury to many on top the long list of suspicious events and scandalous deals and scams hounding the Arroyo administraion.

Around 200 participated in the "email a postcard to GMA" campaign of Black and White and we can add these 82 admirable nuns. More than 120,000 raised their voices against ABC's "Desperate Housewives" derogatory episode on medical schools in the Philippines. As someone wrote, what is wrong with this picture? Bert Peronilla
I wonder why people wasted time howling about the Desperate Housewives shenanigans when there was a grain of truth there. Pinoys did have a nasty habit of buying diplomas off Recto after all. Or doctoring medical exams.
But howling about the great Cheating President. Now that's another matter. She's probably one reason people in this country are cheating black and blue: she gave a monstrously bad example in the election scandal.
Jake, your first sentence (question) begs the question - WHY? Is it bacause there is a chance that ABC will at least admit to their mistake and do something to rectify it whereas re-GMA, there is absolutely NO HOPE that anything will change?
Why howl against desperate houswives which was a simple commentary on the state of affairs of medical practice. Did Pinoys howl because they were hurt by the truth? Better to accept it with dignity and work to improve the image.
And as for the cheating president- now that's something worth howling against. Hollering against her injustice serves a purpose: to drive her mad and out of office
Jake & Bert. You are both stating in different styles, the same painful apparent reality-- that we feel hopelessly yoked to a lying & cheating Preident and have resigned ourselves to our hapless situation.
Fr. Joaquin Bernas, S.J. once said on another matter that where there is pervasive hopelessness, every little source of hope matters a lot.
Concerned citizens like you can give birth to a hope for reform in our country.Continue waging the battle or even just your battle cry for reform, in every possible way & venue.
Hopefully, the Philippine walls of Jericho can crumble in due time. In God's time. With our collective efforts.
The King in "Beowulf" the movie said: "God will not do anything for us that we can not do collectively ourselves" or something to that effect. What do you think?
AMEN.
